Obituary of Raymond McCartney
McCartney, Raymond Gordon “Butch”
Peacefully surrounded by his family on November 8, 2018 in his 81st year at Georgetown Hospital.
Ray was a devoted husband to his wife Carol (Neilson) for over 49 years. Loving father to Sean (Sarah) and Susan (Dwayne). Proud Grandfather to Evan and Ryan McCartney, Spencer, Austin and Adrienne Zylstra.
The youngest of 5 children, Ray was born August 2, 1938 in his family home on John Street to James Fredrick and Aleda McCartney. He is predeceased by his siblings Doris Cox, Jocelyn Tost, Bruce and Denis McCartney and has always given credit to his sisters for giving him the name “Butch” so many years ago.
In his youth when he wasn’t earning money working as “Head Rink Rat” at the Georgetown Memorial Arena, a pin setter at the Bowling alley, or Hutch’s Pool Hall, young Butch was busy hunting and fishing along the Credit River. Later, when cars became his way around town, his time was spent driving way too fast! Despite his driving skills, Butch chose to walk to work daily and enjoyed his years at Abitibi/Provincial Papers and then CPI.
Whether you knew him as Butch or Ray, he will forever be remembered for his incredible sense of humor and devotion to his family and friends.
Friends and family will be received at the J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home 11582 Trafalgar Road, north of Maple Avenue. Georgetown 905-877-3631 on Sunday November 18 from 1-4pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory can be made to the War Amps of Canada
