Obituary of Etheleen Martin (Mitchell)

Etheleen Frances Martin (Mitchell, nee Seage)

October 22, 1938 – March 24, 2018

Mom passed away peacefully in the Victoria Hospice at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC on Saturday, March 24. She is survived by sons Rick {Gina), and Grant {Heidi}, daughter Connie {John), stepson Tim {Louise), brother Fred {Pauline}, sister Kathy Seage, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born and raised in Toronto, she married George Mitchell in 1956, and had a wonderful life with him until his tragic death in a snowmobile accident in 1982. Mom worked primarily in administration and finance, and served 19 years with the Peel Board of Education; first at Central Peel Secondary, and later at IndEC North, becoming head secretary at both schools. She retired in 1991.

Marrying long-time friend Charlie Martin (d. 2016) in 1989, they had many, many travel adventures together including The Great North American Tour of 1994. Mom loved their little house in Florida and the friends they made there. She was always surrounded by those who cared and were cared for whether in Georgetown, Brampton, Snelgrove or Florida; many of them for decades. She loved music and to dance, to play cards, and to travel. Somewhere she’s just filled a foursome for bid euchre. We all love and miss you, Mom.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, care aides, and volunteers who provided Mom with concern and consideration; specially the staff at Victoria Hospice.

A service of remembrance will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church in Georgetown, Ont.- where she worshipped and volunteered - at 1 pm Saturday, May 12, 2018. A reception will follow at the Georgetown Senior’s Centre.

In lieu of flowers, at the family’s request, donations would be gratefully received by Victoria Hospice, Victoria, BC, or St. Andrew’s United Church, Georgetown, ON.
