Hunter, Marion McGill nee:Dick – Passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at the Georgetown Hospital. Marion, in her 98th year, beloved wife of the late John Henry Hunter. Loving mother of Nancy (the late Jim Bright), Ellen (Ron McGowan) and Stephen (Linda) Hunter. Cherished grandmother of Teresa (Aaron Kaddie), Brian (Lynn) Ward, Glenn (Erika) McGowan, Wendy Swartz, Jodie McGowan (Tyler Pierce), Nadia Cowtan, Kezia Cowtan, and Karen (Glen) Snethun. Marion will be lovingly remembered by her 17 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, and by her sister in law Isobel Dick. Marion was an active participant in her communities taking both cooperative and leadership roles with the Ashgrove United Church and Glen Williams United Church, the Junior Farmers, the 4H Club in Ashgrove and Terra Cotta, as well as a lifetime member of the Women’s Institute. An accomplished needlewoman and a supporter of the arts, she could often be found using her strong alto voice, painting and collecting pictures, creating beauty through decoration, and supporting the theatre.
Marion was a traveller and an eager listener to the travel stories of others.
She had an appreciation of good food - growing, preserving and cooking; always looking for new culinary experiences and healthy choices. Marion was always learning – reading newspapers and novels or taking courses in sewing. She was a strong, highly organized individual, with a strong love for family and the continuity of family. She was a documenter of the past and present. In spite of post-war challenges and the hardship of poverty, she created a life and an atmosphere of optimism and beauty as she and John raised their 4 children and a barn full of animals.
Marion was beloved by many. She stayed strong and healthy, independent until her final illness in her 98th year.
