We used to joke he was in the house the day I came home from the hospital (being born!). We joked about a LOT of stuff.. Laughed our heads off on the golf course. This news, of John’s passing, is very sad for everyone who knew him. Gone too soon. Missed forever.

We were so sorry to hear the news about John. I knew the family, but Lou knew him from North Halton Golf Club as did I when I joined. He was the best golf pro of our time, and he had such a great sense of humour. He taught our son some of his first lessons, and had such a great way with kids. We were out of the country and couldn't attend the funeral. Our sympathy is with the family, Lynn and all who loved him. He will be missed by so many

So sad to read of John's passing in the paper. He was a wonderful man, father & grandpa to many and will be surely missed. I had the pleasure of working with him at North Halton through my later teens, and to share his friendship along with his many pranks and gags, will always be a cherished memory. Glad to know that his family could celebrate his memory, where he had spent so much of his career, as someone I'll always remember when I drive by.. As much as Don was a mentor to John, I will always remember John as someone I could look up to and know that he .would always be there if needed. In closing I offer my sincere condolences to the family and we keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Jim Pollock

To my extended family and father in law John: John, our time together was far too short. There is a quote “it’s not the years in your life that count, it’s the life in your years” and this is John to a tee and how he will be remembered. Although our time was short the quality of the time shared, feels like a lifetime of memories, laughs and jokes. Oh how I will miss the random and unannounced visits to our home. Sometimes these were long….(very long:-) ) and others very short. A perfect example of John’s huge heart that I would like to share… One evening there was a knock at the door. By the time I opened it there was nobody there except a nice bottle of California Red wine at my feet and as I looked up, there was John waving goodbye as he jumped back into his van. There was no real reason for him to do this other than his love for his family. I am so grateful for everything John did for us. He was truly the definition of the guy “who would give the shirt off his back” & often did by giving more than he had. This was no exception for only family, this was for anyone who crossed John’s path in life. John you are my family and most importantly friend. Your love & affection along with that loud voice, laugh and smile that would truly light up a room will be forever missed. Goodbyes are not forever and we’ll miss you until we meet again buddy! R.I.P. Your Pal, Travy

So very sorry to hear of the untimely passing of John. My thoughts go out to everyone in his circle of family and friends. Our family will be forever grateful to John for making my brother Sam a marshall at Hornby Glen, which allowed him to golf nearly every day he was able to, in his last year with cancer. He LOVED to golf, and John made his last year extremely happy. Thanks, John, and RIP. Patti Caruso

I’m sure I speak of everyone who knew John and mostly for those who worked at golf courses with John. I worked at Hornby as a Marshall for John. He made it fun and interesting. He certainly knew his stuff. The 10 years I spent there I think my fondest memory was the one and only time I played golf with job. I learned a lot from him. And I’ll certainly miss him. He was a great man.

I am so sorry for your great loss, one thing I know about John is he had a spirit and heart larger than life and even though not here in body, there is no way he won’t be with you ever single moment of every single day with that same heart and spirit. It was a great privilege to had known John. In the short time I knew him, he left an imprint on my life, the world lost a great man, father and friend!

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and many friends. I was fortunate to have met John many years ago through my brother Dennis a member at North Halton as well as Ken a fellow professional We got along immediately and I always made it a point to search him out whenever I had the opportunity to play there. I enjoyed his company greatly and am proud to have called him friend Like my brothers he has been taken far too early and will be greatly missed. I will treasure his memory and like so many friends I've lost that memory will bring a smile to my face. RIP Dart❤️️

John was a great friend to my father, George Hughes. Their mutual love of golf and having a drink or two after 18 holes led to a long friendship. It was with a great deal of sadness that our family learned of John´s passing. I truly hope that John is now reconnecting with family and the friends he made at North Halton who have predeceased him.

I didn’t know John very well, but whenever I saw him he had the biggest smile in the room, and was there to take us home or visit the office What I do know is that he loved his kids and grandchildren. I had the privilege to work with Kerri and Shannon, who are more than wonderful women to say the least. I loved to hear the crazy stories of John. But also to know that he was always there for them, weather it be to babysit at the last minute or to help them move , In fact help in anyway. Including getting them a couch! I know John will be missed. So much. I guess the heavens will be smiling now. And I hope the family will smile again soon. Xoxo. To the hendersons and family and friends

I am deeply saddened to hear of John’s passing and send my condolences to his family and friends. John and I attended Chapel Street school together and only a few days ago I saw a picture of his kindergarten class posted and remarked on how much he had kept the same features, such a sweet little face. I had the pleasure to work closely with John as he helped me and many of my family members plan our annual family golf tournament, many times held at Hornby Golf Club. John was always a true professional, helping in any way he could and most importantly, a friend to all. Rest In Peace my friend.
